As we get closer and closer to the June 12 primary, I can’t help but think about Maine and the amazing experience I had when I served in the House and the Senate representing the people of South Portland and Cape Elizabeth.

I loved that you were willing to stop and talk with me in the grocery store about issues that you felt strongly about. Maine truly embraces the concept of a citizen Legislature.

This year, I am pleased to see that Richard Rottkov is running for a seat in the House in District 32. I’ve known Richard and his family since they first moved to South Portland. He is a strong champion of education, the economy and the environment. Richard is a longtime Democrat who has never wavered from defending true Democratic values and supporting Democratic candidates. (When I ran for the House, Richard was quick to offer to help knock on doors and put up lawn signs for me!)

You may know Richard from the South Portland Land Trust, the South Portland Democratic Committee or the Cumberland County Democratic Committee. He may have taught you in one of his classes at Southern Maine Community College.

Richard is a hard worker who will certainly help move Maine forward. I urge you to give him your support as you go to the polls next month. You will not be sorry.

Best wishes from California. I think fondly of Maine, and look forward to returning for a visit very soon.
