Buxton police have filed criminal charges against the second of two men allegedly involved in a drag-racing crash on May 21.

Thomas Dewitt, 56, of Buxton was charged Wednesday with aggravated driving to endanger, said Buxton Police Chief Troy A. Cline in a statement Wednesday.

According to Cline, Buxton officer Warren Day interviewed Dewitt, who was driving a blue 2005 Chrysler 300, on Monday at Maine Medical Center, where he was recovering from injuries suffered in the crash. Brandon Buzynski, 26, of Arundel, was driving a 2003 Dodge Neon when the two vehicles collided on Parker Farm Road.

“As a result of both interviews of the drivers and the ongoing criminal investigation, both Dewitt and Buzynski have been charged with aggravated driving to endanger,” Cline said.

The men are expected to make their initial court appearance June 29 in Alfred Superior Court. Buzynski was charged last week.

Buxton police said that Dewitt was ahead of Buzynski, but apparently lost control of his vehicle, left the road and struck a guide wire support pole. The pole went airborne, landed in the road and struck the hood of the Dodge Neon.

Rescue workers found Dewitt pinned inside his car.

The speed limit on that stretch of road is 40 mph, but witnesses reported seeing both cars traveling in the same direction at a high rate of speed.

After the crash, Dewitt was taken to Maine Medical Center where he underwent surgery.
