An American Airlines flight from Portland International Jetport to Philadelphia was forced to land in Boston Wednesday after smoke began filling the cockpit.

A statement from the airline said Flight 4933, which left Portland at 6:22 p.m., landed safely at Logan International Airport in Boston a little less than an hour later.

All passengers deplaned without any issues and re-booked on other flights. The airline provided hotel rooms for passengers who needed to stay the night in Boston.

The statement said the smoke was caused by a mechanical issue but did not elaborate. The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate, which is standard for all emergency landings.

The plane was an Embraer E145 operated by Piedmont Airlines, a subsidiary of American, and had a seating capacity of 44.
