I write with regret about the decision of the editors to reduce drastically the content of the Religion & Values page in the Saturday Portland Press Herald, including discontinuing the Reflections column, for which I and many other local contributors have written.

The role of a local newspaper is both to reflect and to shape our common life and dialogue. As much now as ever, we need to lift up diverse expressions of what is good and right and true, what makes us better human beings and a better community. This editorial decision diminishes the paper’s value in that role.
