Only one candidate is running in the Democratic primary for House District 42 in Portland, although two names will appear on the ballot.

Incumbent Rep. Benjamin Collings is unopposed in the June 12 primary. Collings is a political and business consultant who ran Bernie Sanders’ campaign in Maine during the Democratic primaries and has worked as a lobbyist in both Augusta and Washington, D.C. He currently serves on the Joint Standing Committee on Insurance and Financial Services.

He won his seat in 2016 against Republican Susan Abercrombie, who has filed to run again in the general election.

April Fournier originally filed to run in the primary, but withdrew from the race April 10. However, Fournier’s name will still appear on the ballot because her withdrawal came less than 70 days before the election.

District 42 includes part of Portland.
