YARMOUTH — Main Street under the Route 1 bridge will be closed due to ongoing bridge construction from the evening of Friday, June 15, through the morning of Monday, June 18.

All vehicle, bike and pedestrian access will be prohibited.

According to news release from the town, Westbound drivers will be detoured to Route 1 northbound to East Main Street, then North Road to East Elm Street. Eastbound traffic will travel from Route 1 South to Portland Street.

Bicyclists and pedestrians can take Main Street at School Street and through the Royal River Park to Bridge Street.

Drivers will be able to access Route 1, which will remain open throughout the weekend, from Main Street. Apart from weekend closures, two lanes of travel down Main Street are being maintained as well.

The work is part of a $4.1 million replacement of the 70-year-old bridge, funded by the Maine Department of Transportation, Portland Area Comprehensive Transit System, and the town.

Throughout construction, traffic on the bridge will be maintained in both directions at all times. All construction will be suspended during the Clam Festival from July 19-23.
