WINDHAM—The Eagles knocked off the visiting Red Storm on Tuesday, June 2: Windham put up two runs to Scarborough’s one, Tanner Bernier and Kyle Herzig both crossing home for in the bottom of the second.

The first passed scorelessly, as did the top of the second. Bernier singled to kick off Windham’s next ups, and Herzig followed him with a second single. Ryan Sargent then volleyed a third consecutive base-hit into rightfield; Sargent got caught in a fielder’s choice on his way to second during Derek Foss’s at-bat, but that Storm decision allowed Bernier to score and Herzig to gain third. Herzig soon touched the plate on a Scarborough error.

Scarborough’s lone run came in the fifth, Nick Thompson doubling to get on, then rounding to home on a Nick Martin single.

Bernier had a second hit for Windham on the day, as did Sargent. Bryce Afthim also logged a hit. Bernier pitched the Eagles’ complete game, striking out seven and walking just one.

The No. 6 Eagles move to 11-6 – and narrowly survive the postseason prelims. The team advances to face No. 3 Portland (12-4) in the quarters on Thursday, June 7.
