LISBON — Town councilors Tuesday night approved an off-premise beer garden and an art wall for this year’s Moxie Festival.
Cook’s Lobster and Ale House plan to operate a beer garden on Campus Street next to MTM Park on July 14, the second day of the festival.
“We are (also) adding an art walk event, which will bring (the festival) farther up on Main Street,” said Tracey Steuber, economic and community development director.
Councilors agreed to allow Lisbon Falls artist Marcea Crawford to put up paper murals on the Union Street side of the library.
“The murals last for three to four months,” Crawford said. “And it doesn’t hurt the brick; it doesn’t damage anything.”
The murals will be stuck to the brick with wheat paste, a substance composed of wheat flour and boiling water.
“I thought it would be cool to have three different art movements representing different times in art history,” Crawford said.
She plans to design murals representing art from the cubist, pop art and art nouveau movements.
Because of the addition of the art walk, councilors agreed to close off streets from Berry Avenue to Main Street during the festival.
“Everything (else) is the same,” said Steuber, referring to the roads that have been closed during previous Moxie Festivals.
