KENNEBUNK — Mother Nature won the first two rounds, but Kennebunk and Biddeford finally played their Class A South softball preliminary-round game Wednesday afternoon.

Kennebunk’s Britney Gregoire put on a show in her final home game, as she went 4 for 5 with a home run and the sixth-seeded Rams picked up a 10-1 win over No. 11 Biddeford.

The game was originally scheduled for Monday but was postponed twice.

“Obviously the rain throws a wrench in things for sure, but I think the kids came out every day and showed up prepared as if we were going to play the game,” said Kennebunk Coach Kortney Nedeau.

Biddeford (7-10) scored in the top of the first. Taylor Wildes led off with an infield single and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Chantel Perreault after an error and a walk to Brook Davis loaded the bases. Lydia Howarth struck out the next two hitters to limit the damage, then held Biddeford hitless the rest of the way.

The Rams (11-6) responded with two runs in the bottom half. Gregoire drove in Emily Hogue with an infield single and later scored on an error.

“I was impressed with how our team reacted to (Biddeford scoring first). We just didn’t let it affect us,” said Gregoire, who finished with three RBI and four runs.

Kennebunk added three runs in the second, with RBI hits coming from Lindsey Gregoire and Howarth.

Britney Gregoire’s home run and singles from Lindsey Gregoire and Howarth helped the Rams extend the lead to 7-1 in the fourth.

Kennebunk pushed across three more runs in the fifth. Britney Gregoire had an RBI double, and Howarth and Kylie DeFoe each added an RBI single.

The Rams will face No. 3 Thornton Academy in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m. Thursday.
