Having served five years in the Maine Senate prior to becoming Portland’s mayor, I have firsthand experience of what is required of a state senator. That experience tells me that Heather Sanborn is the best choice in the upcoming Democratic primary for Maine Senate District 28.

Serving in the Maine Legislature is a full-time commitment. If a lawmaker is going to be effective, she must make time for many important committee hearings, meetings with stakeholders, negotiations with colleagues, policy research, relationship building and a full calendar of events, not to mention several hundred floor debates each session. The legislative calendar is unpredictable. As each day unfolds, it is often impossible to forecast what time the work will be done for the evening.

If voters choose to send Heather to the Senate, we will have someone who devotes every measure of herself to serving as our senator. She will vigorously advocate for us at a time when Portland and Westbrook are in need of stronger support from state government.

Heather is already one of the most effective legislators in the State House. Let’s continue with her as our full-time advocate. Please make her the Democratic nominee for the Maine Senate on June 12.
