Even the most diligent among us rarely know more about the candidate than he or she wants us to know. We listen to the speeches, go to meet-the-candidate events, visit the website, etc., but it’s all carefully edited to present an image of the person as idealistic, trustworthy and caring.

It is very rewarding to really know the candidate as a person, and that’s why I am so enthusiastic about endorsing Herb Adams. I worked with him for years as a fellow teacher, as a supporter of his legislative actions (he was a Democratic state representative from 2002 to 2010), and as a member of the Portland community.

His efforts to educate are not limited to his teaching position, but extend to the community as a whole. He frequently leads discussion and workshops about events of both current and historical significance. As a legislator he was instrumental in supporting the Portland library and in efforts to build the Casco Bay Bridge connecting South Portland and Portland.

I know him to be straightforward and hardworking in all his endeavors. I would encourage those who believe that government should be in service to the electorate to support Maine House District 40 candidate Herb Adams in the June 12 Democratic primary.
