Congratulations on your June 3 centerpiece profiling 10 outstanding Maine high school graduates (“10 grads to watch,” Page A1).

Both heartening and inspiring, their stories are particularly welcome at a time when there is so much prejudice toward people of different ethnic, religious or racial backgrounds, as well as against those whose lifestyles fail to conform to certain norms.

These 10 young people give us reason to hope for a future in which our better angels will prevail.
