Make-A-Wish Maine recently presented a plaque to Fontaine Family-The Real Estate Leader of Scarborough in recognition of its to help grant the 1,400th wish in Maine. In total, $7,132 was raised through Fontaine’s “Bid For Wishes” Facebook Silent Auction. Each year for the past 10 years, Fontaine has been raising money by either participating in the “Walk-for-Wishes” or their “Bid for Wishes” with the help of generous donations by team members, friends, and local businesses. All money raised goes directly to Make-A-Wish to grant the wish of a child with a critical illness. This year, Bid for Wishes runs from July 16-23.

Norway Savings Bank recently made a $7,500 sponsorship to Greater Portland Landmarks to support its educational programs and goals. Greater Portland Landmarks is dedicated to preserving and revitalizing the city’s legacy of historic buildings, neighborhoods, landscapes and parks. This summer, four interns will be conducting historic building surveys in select neighborhoods that are targeted by the city for intensive planning efforts. The survey results will be shared with residents and the city during Norway Savings Bank-sponsored educational sessions.

Spurwink has announced the 2018 Humanitarian Awards Honorees that will be recognized at the 32nd annual gala in October: Danielle M. Conway, dean and professor of law, University of Maine Law School; Sun Life Financial and; Richard Tryon, co-founder and former executive director, Community Partners, Inc. 

Todd Reagin of Maine Medicare Options LLC has received an award from Harvard Pilgrim as one of their top performing producers in Medicare supplement sales in the state.

Verrill Dana has been rated as a Leading Firm in seven Maine categories and three subcategories as evaluated by London-based Chambers & Partners, one of the world’s most respected legal research and publishing firms.

At its 15th annual ordination ceremony on June 3, The Chaplaincy Institute of Maine ordained five new community interfaith chaplains, including Linda Card, of Cape Elizabeth; and Judy Graham and Kali Bird Isis, both of Scarborough.

Hires, promotions, appointments

Mercy Hospital announced the appointment of Michael Duffy, M.D., to senior physician executive, the hospital’s most senior medical position. Since joining Mercy in 2010, Duffy has assumed roles that include regional physician executive of Mercy Hospital and medical director of primary care. He has also served as the vice president of the Mercy Medical Group since 2016.

Spectra, the providers of venue management and corporate partnerships to the Cross Insurance Arena, named Melanie Henkes the new general manager. Henkes served most recently as the assistant general manager and director of events. 

Kyle Kennedy of Cape Elizabeth Fire Rescue was one of a dozen Maine firefighters who recently graduated from the Maine Fire Service Institute’s Maine State Fire Academy. The academy’s intensive, 10-day training program includes fire suppression, vehicle rescue, fire behavior, hazmat operations, search and rescue, survival skills, and ropes and knots.

Karen Stimpson has been hired as the new grants manager at Maine Organic Farmer and Gardeners Association. Stimpson was founding executive director of Maine Island Trail Association and has filled director roles with the Coastal Humane Society and the Maine Federation of Humane Societies. She has a bachelor’s degree in graphic and communicating arts and a U.S. Coast Guard third mate’s license. She has lived on a boat in Portland Harbor for 35 years.

Broadreach Public Relations has hired Cumberland resident Marnie MacLean as a Senior Storyteller and Multi-Media Strategist. 

Sebago Technics engineering consulting firm has hired survey professionals Thomas Low, a CAD/survey technician and Daniel O’Connell, who rejoins Sebago as survey technician.  

Atlantic National Trust, a commercial real estate investment firm with offices in Maine and Texas, has promoted Ben Keller of Portland to director of Real Estate/Senior Loan Officer.

On June 5, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu presented Cumberland resident John Jensenius, Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Gray, with the 2018 Most Valuable Partner Award at the New Hampshire Emergency Preparedness Conference. In addition to providing weather information for western Maine, the Gray office provides New Hampshire with forecast and warnings services and assists the state with documentation of severe events to support requests for federal disaster assistance. The award noted Jensenius’s exemplary collaboration and innovation to enhance New Hampshire’s emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.
