Chelsea Roy’s quest for love on national TV didn’t go so well last winter, so she’s trying again.

The South Portland woman failed to end up with a boyfriend or husband after being on six episodes of ABC’s “The Bachelor” in January and February. But starting on Aug. 7, she’ll be one of about 20 contestants on the companion show “Bachelor in Paradise,” according to the series’ website.

“Bachelor in Paradise” features men and women who were contestants on the ABC reality dating shows “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette.” The contestants are brought together to some romantic spot where they’ll live together and get to know each other. The contestants are “hoping to turn a potential fling into the real thing,” according to the show’s website.

The show’s cameras follow the cast as they explore new relationships, fall in love and possibly find long-term happiness with someone.

Roy was one of the women competing for the attention of bachelor Arie Luyendyk in the most recent edition of “The Bachelor.” Luyendyk eventually became engaged to another contestant, Lauren Burnham.

Roy, a single mother who works in real estate, had made quite an impression on fans of the show and TV critics in the season’s first episode on Jan. 1. Bloggers and columnists immediately labeled her the season’s “villain” because of her aggressive behavior.

She was the first woman to kiss Luyendyk on the show and the first to get a rose from him, the so-called “first impression rose.”

Roy was not the first Maine woman to be on either “The Bachelor” or “The Bachelorette.” Madawaska native Ashley Hebert was a runner-up on “The Bachelor” in 2011, then starred on “The Bachelorette.” She ended up marrying J.P. Rosenbaum in 2012. The wedding was filmed and shown on ABC. Today, she and Rosenbaum have two children.

“Bachelor in Paradise” will air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. beginning Aug. 7 and can be seen locally on Portland ABC station WMTW, Channel 8.
