My God! Has it come to this (again)?
In response to his policy of separating children from their parents, who enter this nation illegally, the attorney general of the nation, Jeff Sessions, cites Apostle Paul’s admonition to subjects to obey their rulers and their laws since they reflect God’s will. To disobey such authority must surely be in violation of God’s blueprint for life. Anyone want to take that chance by engaging in disobedience?
Authoritarians must surely find it comforting to learn of such a religious sanction that provides them with divine legitimacy for their authority and actions. I would consider this biblical citation by the nation’s top legal officer in justification for governmental action to be a wholesale “spiritual” violation of the principle of the separation of church and state.
