During times of grief, seemingly small tasks can deem daunting. I’d like to thank the obituary department at the Portland Press Herald – specifically, a kind woman named Giselle – for helping me process my sister’s obituary for publication.

I made several changes, which Giselle accepted with unfailing patience over two days. And because I got to check every iteration of the obituary, it appeared exactly as I wrote it.

These folks are more than just voices on the phone; they are people who understand that their callers have just lost a loved one. Thank you.
