BATH

U.S. Sen. Angus King announced this week that he has been endorsed for reelection by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local S6, the largest union at Bath Iron Works.

In a press release, Tim Suitter, a member of the Local S6 legislative committee, cited king’s work on the Senate Armed Services Committee. “The door is always open and his leadership in the Senate has become apparent,” Suitter said.

“Every time I meet with men and women at Bath Iron Works, I am reminded that our local shipbuilders represent the best of Maine,” King said. “Their commitment to their work product is second to none and they set the gold standard for every shipyard in the country. The saying Bath built is best built isn’t just a saying, it’s a reality. And that’s why Local S6’s support is so important to me. It’s been an honor to serve on their behalf on the Senate Armed Services Committee, working to authorize funding for Navy destroyers so Bath shipbuilders can compete for and build the most advanced warships in the world. I look forward to continuing my close work with Local S6 so we can further the mission of the U.S. Navy, and ensure good jobs and good people stay in Maine.”

King will face Auburn Republican State Sen. Eric Brakey and Democrat Zak Ringelstein of Portland in November.
