Once again, Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska are going to be called upon and held responsible for decisions that will affect the vast majority of Americans, particularly women, for decades to come.

Their party was responsible for holding up a simple vote on President Barack Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to the U.S. Supreme Court. Then the Republicans changed the rules for a SCOTUS confirmation from 60 votes to a simple majority, and not a word from either Collins or Murkowski about the blatant hypocrisy their party is involved in currently!

The good ol’ boys in the Republican Party played Collins on her measures to stabilize health care in exchange for her vote for tax reform. Now she is being called upon by both parties to provide an extremely important vote on a nominee who could be the swing vote that overturns Roe v. Wade and decides the fate of the Affordable Care Act.

Sen. Collins promised us that she would uphold Roe v. Wade and affordable health care. I – we, the people of Maine – hope she has the moral courage and conviction to stand up to the men in her party who will make a decision that will affect us all for years to come!
