Brandon Smith lined a two-run triple to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the 10th inning as the Keene Swamp Bats beat the Sanford Mainers 5-3 in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game at Goodall Park in Sanford Monday night.

Justin Willis picked up the win for Keene (15-13), going the final 31/3 innings, holding the Mainers without a hit, striking out five and walking three.

Nick Howie, Shane Marshall and Austin Biggar each had a pair of hits for Sanford (13-11).

AMERICAN LEGION: Dylan Francoeur hit a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the fourth as Coastal Landscaping scored five times in a 10-0 win over Staples Crossing in five innings in Zone 3 play at Cheverus High School in Portland.

Connor MacDonald pitched five no-hit innings for Coastal Landscaping (11-3), striking out six and walking one.

Griffin Watson added a pair of hits for Coastal, including a triple.

REGENCY MORTGAGE: Ben Seguin had pair of hits to lead the way as Nova Seafood beat Bruno’s 4-2 at Scarborough High School.

Nick Frink, Dom Spina and Mike Lagage each had a double for Nova Seafood (10-1), which took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Nick Frink picked up the win, throwing two scoreless innings of relief, and Noah Frink recorded the save.

CYCLING

TOUR DE FRANCE: Chris Froome’s Team Sky came up four seconds short of winning the team time trial in the third stage of the Tour de France in Cholet, France, as Greg Van Avermaet of victorious BMC claimed the yellow jersey.

BMC, led by Australian hope Richie Porte, clocked 38 minutes, 46 seconds over the 35.5-kilometer (22-mile) route that began and ended in Cholet near the Atlantic coast.

Sky finished second and Quick-Step Floors came in third, seven seconds behind.

NFL: The Carolina Panthers announced the sale of the franchise to David Tepper has closed.

Tepper, the founder and president of global hedge fund Appaloosa Management, L.P., bought the team from founder Jerry Richardson for $2.2 billion – the most ever paid for an NFL franchise.

A former NFL cornerback has been arrested after police say he broke into the Southern California house of an ex-girlfriend who has a restraining order against him.

Police say Brandon Browner, who played on the 2014 Patriots team that won the Super Bowl, broke into the house, threatened to kill the woman and stole a Rolex watch valued at about $20,000.

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Marquez White has been indicted on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in what he described as a road-rage incident in suburban Dallas.

Police say a former Detroit Lions player has been arrested in Pittsburgh for punching an officer after refusing to pay a limo driver.

NFL free agent Brandon Pettigrew is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, theft of services and public drunkenness.

BUNDESLIGA: United States striker Bobby Wood has moved to Bundesliga side Hannover from relegated Hamburger SV.

Hannover says the 25-year-old Wood is joining on loan for one year, with the option to then make the switch permanent.
