BASEBALL

Trey Amburgey of the Trenton Thunder hit a tying RBI double for the East in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday, and the Eastern League All-Star Game ended in a 4-4 tie at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, New Jersey.

Portland Sea Dogs first baseman Josh Ockimey was 0 for 2 for the East, and Portland pitchers Matt Kent and Kyle Hart each pitched a perfect inning of relief.

Jan Hernandez and Deivi Grullon of Reading each homered for the East. Tim Tebow of Binghamton was the designated hitter for the East and had a double in four at-bats.

NECBL: John Rizer hit a grand slam in the eighth to help the Sanford Mainers (14-11) record a 7-1 win over the Newport Gulls (13-15) at Newport, Rhode Island. Matt Dockman allowed one hit in five innings of shutout ball for Sanford.

EPBL: Ryan Chesney had two hits and drove in three runs to lead the Old Orchard Beach Surge (9-13) to an 8-1 home win over the Aguada Explorers (7-12). John Tierney added three hits and two runs scored.

AMERICAN LEGION: Colby Wagner had two hits, including an RBI triple, and Post 86 United used a run-scoring passed ball in the bottom of the seventh to take a 6-5 win over Topsham at Cumberland.

JUNIOR LEGION: Luke Knowles had two hits and a run scored, Ryan Joyce added an RBI double and a run, and Thirsty Turf (11-1) took a 6-4 win over Oxford Hills (8-2) at Portland. Nick Giancotti struck out eight and allowed one run in four-plus innings for Thirsty Turf.

BABE RUTH: Ryan Kelly had three hits, two RBI and a run scored to lead Greater Portland to a 5-1 win over Augusta at the Babe Ruth 13 state tournament at South Portland. Brady Coyne added two hits and two RBI for Greater Portland.

SKIING

RANDALL CANCER DIAGNOSIS: Olympic gold medalist Kikkan Randall announced that she’s been diagnosed with early stage breast cancer.

The 35-year-old cross-country skier known for pink highlighted hair said on social media that “the color pink has taken on a new chapter” in her life. She said the prognosis is good, but she expects life to change significantly in the months ahead.

Randall is a five-time Olympian who returned in 2016 after a break and delivered the first gold in cross-country for the U.S. with relay team partner Jessica Diggins at the PyeongChang Olympics in February.

CYCLING

TOUR DE FRANCE: Peter Sagan beat Sonny Colbrelli in a sprint finish for the second time in this year’s tour, this one coming in Stage 4 at the conclusion of the race’s first hilly route.

Greg Van Avermaet took advantage of an intermediate bonus sprint to add two seconds to his overall lead.

Race favorite Chris Froome crossed safely in the main pack.

HOCKEY

NHL: The Detroit Red Wings agreed to a two-year, $6.6 million contract with restricted free agent Anthony Mantha.

The 23-year-old wing led the team with 24 goals last season.

GOLF

BRITISH OPEN: American Andrew Landry will play in the event for the first time next week at Carnoustie after replacing Bernd Wiesberger, who withdrew because of a wrist injury.
