Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers has been placed on the disabled list because of shoulder inflammation, the team announced Thursday afternoon.

The Red Sox called up infielder Tzu-Wei Lin from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill in. Both Devers and Lin are former Portland Sea Dogs, playing at Hadlock Field last season.

Devers, 21, has 14 home runs in 89 games for Boston this season. He is batting .241 with 48 RBI.

It is not known how serious Devers’ injury is. A disabled list stint must last at least 10 days.

Lin, 24, has appeared in 16 games for Boston this year, batting .162.

The Red Sox, on a nine-game winning streak, play host to the Toronto Blue Jays Thursday night.
