EDGECOMB

A prominent local landmark, the Edgecomb Community Church has made an impact on its community.

Now the church, which has been located at 15 Crosspoint Road since 1881, is looking for help from that community.

The historic church, on the National Register of Historic Places since 1987, is seeking donations to help repair its steeple, which has sustained structural damage.

A fundraising campaign — with a goal of $35,000 — has been started to pay for the repair work needed to preserve the church’s steeple.

So far the effort has generated $21,500 in donations, including a $15,000 matching grant fro the Maine Community Foundation. Repairs, by Mid Maine Restoration in conjunction with G&E Roofing Co., are planned to begin later this year.

The only active church in Edgecomb, ECC supports the community, the peninsula and Lincoln County in many ways, including free weekly lunches for the public, support for the Eldercare Network of Lincoln County, fuel assistance for the peninsula, support for abused women, Tedford Shelter in Brunswick, Habitat for Humanity, Boothbay Food Pantry, Boothbay Region Community Resources and Lincoln Health.

People wishing to support the church with a donation for its steeple repair may do so by sending a check or money order payable to the ECC Steeple Fund, PO Box 113, Edgecomb, ME 04556. Donations may also be given on the church website, edgecombchurch.org; click on “support” to make your gift.
