Learn from my mistake. When the Equifax security breach occurred and media coverage supplied information on how to protect yourself, I took the option I never knew I had before to freeze my credit information. I figured that I would not be applying for any new credit cards, loans or mortgages in the near future. No problem. Smart thing to do.

Wrong! Since then I’ve seen my insurance rates increase for that specific reason as a result of it, and, most recently, the Social Security Administration denied me the opportunity to register on its website for that reason. So, I’m going to bite the bullet tomorrow and “unfreeze.”

Apparently, you can’t buck the system. I give up.
