Letter writer John Riley is of the opinion that America is becoming a fascist country (July 18). Nonsense. Fascism does not support sanctuary cities or open elections or freedom of the press or freedom of religion. Thousands of people do not attempt to get into fascist countries, thousands try to get out. To compare America with the Germany of 1933, as Mr. Riley does, is just ignorant. He may hate our president – a lot of people do – but no one here is getting imprisoned or murdered because of their beliefs.

But if Mr. Riley is correct, he’d better run for the hills because fascists don’t like to be criticized. I suggest that he support someone more qualified and more honest than Hillary Clinton in the next election. Then, perhaps, we can all calm down and be a little more civil.
