I write in support of Rep. Jay McCreight’s bid for re-election to the Maine House of Representatives. In her two terms in this office, Rep. McCreight has been a visible, vocal and effective representative of the people of her district.

Each of us is personally affected by inroads into our privacy rights and by policy that limits access to health care. Rep. McCreight has sponsored important legislation addressing exactly these issues.

She makes herself available to her constituents at gatherings large and small, listening and engaging in conversation and debate with courtesy and thoughtful consideration. She extends herself to colleagues of all political persuasion, seeking respectful “common ground.”

When I see her do this work, I think of the words of Margaret Chase Smith: “Public service must be more than doing a job efficiently and honestly. It must be a complete dedication to the people and to the nation.” I feel this describes Rep. McCreight’s approach to her service in our democracy, and that is why I support her candidacy.
