The Global Premier Soccer Maine Phoenix U13 boys’ team won the US Club Soccer National Cup XVII Premier Group Championship, which concluded Tuesday in Aurora, Colorado.

The Phoenix went 5-0 in the 10-team tournament with a 16-9 overall goal advantage, beating the Ironbound Super Eagles 3-2 in the championship game.

The GPS Maine U15 girls’ team advanced to its eight-team premier group final, losing to the West Coast SC Kaos, 2-1.

Max Rosner (Brunswick High/Bowdoin) and Chris Janelle (Falmouth/Endicott) played on the Philippines national men’s lacrosse team that went 5-2 overall at the recently completed FIL World Lacrosse Championships in Netanya, Israel. The Philippines finished 10th among 46 nations in its debut trip to the world championships.

Rosner played defense and Janelle was in the midfield for the Philippines. Rosner was a two-time Maine high school All-American at Brunswick High, graduating in 2009, and then was a three-year starter at Bowdoin. He is now a high school science teacher and lacrosse coach in the Washington, D.C., area.

Janelle, a former all-state player at Falmouth, graduated from Endicott in 2014 where he was a four-year player.

Kyle Baker of Kennebunk played on the Belgium national team that finished 30th in the tournament.
