PORTLAND — A Lewiston man who police say tried to flee on a bicycle after robbing a Lisbon Street bank last month has been indicted by a federal grand jury.

Keith Phillips, 57, was indicted in U.S. District Court in Portland on a charge of bank robbery. He faces up to 20 years in federal prison.

Police said although no weapon was seen during the June 6 robbery at Androscoggin Bank, the suspect handed a teller a note demanding money and indicating he was armed.

The robber was handed $2,000 and fled on a bicycle, according to police.

An hour after the heist, police tracked down Phillips at a Pierce Street apartment.

Police officers, detectives and agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Central Maine Violent Crimes Task Force, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and police departments coordinated in the search for the suspect.
