I was shocked to hear Sen. Collins comment recently about the president’s choice for the Supreme Court that “it was really ironic that before the name was announced, people were either for or against.” That is a terrible misuse of the word “ironic.”

However, I was not shocked at the sentiment. Anyone vetted by the Federalist Society and chosen by Trump will be opposed to a woman’s right to a medically safe abortion. The senator knows it, and in her usual meandering way, pretended not to.

I can only hope that the senator will take a moment to think this through, act like the independent senator she claims to be and vote to protect women’s rights. For her to vote for Brett Kavanaugh while saying she supports women’s reproductive rights would be really ironic.
