Peaks Island Ukes band will perform at church

The Peaks Island Ukes will perform a concert of diverse forms of ukulele music during the 10 a.m. Sunday service at the Cape Elizabeth United Methodist Church at 280 Ocean House Road.

The Ukes repertoire ranges from folk, gospel and jazz to classical music.

Old Johnson Lumber Mill will open to public Saturday

The Johnson Lumber Mill, which operated from the mid-1800s to 1963, will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Original equipment includes an up-and-down saw, planer and edger. The Route 5 mill is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Biddeford-Saco Elks Lodge No. 1597 will sponsor a Vets Charity Car Wash from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at 68 Ocean Park Road.

All donations will directly benefit veterans in the Biddeford, Saco and Old Orchard Beach area.

Brick Store Museum hosting walking tours, night event

The Brick Store Museum will host the following events this week, all held at the museum at 117 Main St. unless otherwise noted:

A Kennebunk Beach History Walking Tour will be offered at 2 p.m. Thursday, beginning at Trinity Chapel on Railroad Avenue at Kennebunk Beach. Learn the history of the development of Kennebunk Beach as a tourist destination. The 1-mile, 60-90 minute walk will be led by a trained tour guide. Cost is $10 per person, $5 for members.

A Museum at Night event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, featuring free admission to the galleries and to attend an opening reception for the curated exhibit “Common Threads.”

On Saturday, there will be another guided Historical Walking Tour at noon at the museum. Attendees are invited to come and hear about the history of the elaborate and historical homes that line Kennebunk’s Summer Street neighborhood. . Cost is $10 per person, free for members.

Yard sale, auction to benefit islands’ fire, rescue service

The Orr’s and Bailey Island Fire Department’s 25th Annual Yard Sale and Auction will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the fire station and adjacent Orr’s Island Schoolhouse at 1600 Harpswell Islands Road (Route 24).

The yard sale will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days. The live auction will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, with preview and registration starting at 9 a.m. The silent auction of donated goods and services will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to noon Sunday.

Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be offered for sale on both days. The breakfast menu includes made-to-order sandwiches and bakery items, while lunch features grilled sausages, burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese sandwiches, walking tacos, beverages and desserts.

The yard sale and auction is a vital fundraiser for the volunteer fire and rescue service that serves Orr’s and Bailey islands and parts of Great Island east of the Mountain Road bridge and south of Stevens Corner Road on Route 24.
