Allen Avenue in Portland was closed for several hours Monday morning following a car crash that knocked down utility poles.

The crash happened early Monday morning near the intersection of Allen and Woodlawn avenues, according to Portland Police. The road was closed between Morrills Corner and Ruby Lane for roughly five hours but reopened to traffic before noon.

Police said the road had to be closed while crews from Central Maine Power fixed fallen poles. Traffic lights in Allen’s Corner were out of commission for several hours and stop signs were used to control traffic.

Additional information about the crash was not immediately available.
