PORTLAND — Sewer separation work means all of Bedford Street will be closed from Deering to Forest avenues through Aug. 31.

City spokeswoman Jessica Grondin said contractors from Shaw Brothers in Gorham will be working 24 hours a day to finish utility work and repave the street before the fall semester at the University of Southern Maine begins Sept. 4.

Grondin said local access to the USM campus and area businesses will be allowed, and Bedford Street is expected to reopen Sept. 1.
