In 2015, independent Sen. Angus King reached across the aisle to work alongside Sen. Deb Fischer, a Nebraska Republican, to introduce the Strong Families Act. This bill aims at making paid leave a normal workplace practice by providing tax incentives to employers who offer it.

This bill helps new mothers and fathers spend essential bonding time with their baby without facing financial fears. It is one of many simple, yet meaningful demonstrations of King’s dedication to Maine families. Half of American women are the primary breadwinners of American households, and common-sense laws to allow those women time with their newborn are unfortunately still a rarity in some states. Here in Maine, I’m proud to be represented by Sen. King, who advocates for working women and their families every day. This fall, vote with me to re-elect our senator to keep a strong voice in Washington for working Maine.
