BIDDEFORD — For the fourth consecutive year, the University of New England has been featured in the Princeton Review’s Best 384 Colleges guide.

Newly issued for 2019, the publication is highly selective, showcasing only the top 13 percent of four-year colleges and universities in the nation and it rates institutions of higher education in eight categories, including academics, admissions, quality of life, financial aid and environmental friendliness.

“To be listed among the top colleges and universities in the country is a great honor,” said UNE President James Herbert. “Providing our students a first-rate education and a top-notch experience is always our primary goal, toward which we work diligently all year. To see that hard work recognized by the Princeton Review is extremely gratifying.”

The new edition of Princeton Review’s Best 384 Colleges guide highlights UNE’s campus locations; its programs in the sciences, health professions and liberal arts; its internships and research opportunities; and its friendly community of faculty, staff and students.

The university’s profile in the guide makes note that UNE’s growth in recent years has not hampered its ability to provide intimate learning environments and it quotes a student response that “the class sizes are small enough to have one-on-one interaction with your professor … .”

Another student response in the guide indicates that UNE faculty “truly care about their students and their dreams to succeed.”

Those responses pleased Scott Steinberg, UNE Vice President of University Admissions Scott Steinberg.

“Being listed in the guide is truly a barometer for our success as an institution,” Steinberg said. “The fact that students view UNE as a place that puts them front-and-center tells me that we’re doing the job we set out to do, and we’re doing it extremely well.”

Published annually since 1992, The Princeton Review’s Best Colleges guide is produced by editors committed to providing a balanced representation of colleges by region, size, character and type, considering schools regardless of public/private distinction, rate of selectivity, cost, number of students enrolled or specialized fields of study.

The University of New England is Maine’s largest private university, featuring two distinctive campuses in Biddeford and Portland, a campus in Tangier, Morocco, and an array of online  offerings.

It is home to Maine’s only medical and dental colleges, a variety of other aligned health care programs, and offers nationally recognized degrees in the marine sciences, the natural and social sciences, business, the humanities and the arts.
