BRUNSWICK — Janice D. Hodge, age 81, of Brunswick, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Janice was born in Clinton, MA on November 8, 1936, the only child to Charles and Mary (Gibbons) Dunn. She attended Clinton schools, graduating from Clinton High School. She then attended and graduated from Jackson College in Somerville, Mass with a B.A. in Sociology.

Janice briefly taught junior high in Hudson, MA and then grade school for three years in Centre County Pennsylvania. She and her husband, James moved to Brunswick in 1961, where she taught at the Union Street School until 1964 when they started having a family.

She was a former member of the First Parish Church in Brunswick and served as a Den Mother with the Cub Scouts. For years, she was a highly regarded docent at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art.

Janice had a talented eye for design and architecture which was reflected in the color and design of her home and its landscaping. She also enjoyed experimenting with new recipes and menus.

She leaves behind her husband of 60 years, James L. Hodge of Brunswick; two sons, Geoffrey Hodge and his wife, Lisa of Sutton, MA, and Stephen Hodge and his wife, Sheila of Raleigh, NC; and two grandchildren, Michael Hodge of MA., and Christina Hodge of Florida.

At the family’s request, there will be no service.
