YORK BEACH –The Alzheimer’s Association® is inviting York County residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Maine Beaches Area Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

The Walk will take place on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 at the York Beach Ball Field, located on Railroad Avenue in York Beach.

More than 500 Walk to End Alzheimer’s participants will complete a 3.5 mile walk and will learn about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association. Walk participants will also join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

“The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a family-friendly, fun social event that helps us raise awareness and funds to one day achieve our vision of a world without Alzheimer’s,” explains Laurie Trenholm, Executive Director. “It is an uplifting and inspiring day that shows support for those living with Alzheimer’s and gives a strong message of hope to find answers about this disease and ultimately a cure.”

In addition to the scenic 3.5 mile walk, participants will enjoy the emcee and DJ talent of Ryan Deelon from HOT 104.7 FM. Dogs on leashes are welcome and the walk route accommodates strollers and wheelchairs.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 15 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In Maine alone, there are more than 28,000 people living with the disease and 69,000 caregivers.
