TOPSHAM — Topsham could soon have its first assistant town manager in seven years, as selectmen decide Thursday night whether to revive the position.

Voters approved adding $127, 868 to the town’s expenses at a May town meeting. A portion of that money will go toward funding the salary and benefits for the person who takes the position.

The person who takes the job will back the human resources, technology, facilities management and the finance departments. Town Manager Rich Roedner had initially proposed a part-time position to help with the finance department, officials later decided the assistant manager should help in other areas as well.

Selectmen also will decide at Thursday’s meeting whether to back the construction of new mountain bike trails behind the town’s transfer station on Townsend Way. Thursday’s meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Topsham Municipal Building.
