LEWISTON — The Bowdoin College women’s tennis team competed in its first fall tournament this past weekend at the Wallach Women’s Doubles Invitational hosted by Bates College.

In the two-day tournament, Bowdoin teams performed well, including three wins on Saturday by Julia Marks and Devon Wolfe to win the A-Draw. They defeated teammates Rachel Bercovitch and Tasha Christ in the final, 8-4.

On Sunday, Bercovitch teamed with Fleming Landau to pick up three victories in the B-Draw of the round-robin tournament.

The team returns to action this weekend when it travels to Williams to compete in the ITA New England Regional.

Women’s golf

HADLEY, Mass. — The women’s golf team finished 14th over the weekend at the highly-competitive Mount Holyoke Invitational, hosted at The Orchards Golf Club.

Bowdoin finished at 784 for the two-day tournament, improving 16 shots on day two to take 14th in the 17-team field.

Caroline Farber finished 34th in the tournament, shooting consecutive 83s to end at 166. Emme McCabe was Bowdoin’s second-best performer, taking 43rd with a 171. Haley Baldwin (76th, 204), Brynne Wicklund (91st, 243) and Lindsey Bindra (93rd, 255) rounded out the Bowdoin competitors.

The Polar Bears will travel to Williams to play at the Williams Invitational, hosted by Taconic Golf Club, on Saturday and Sunday.

Men’s golf

HADLEY, Mass. — The men’s golf team finished 15th in a deep field at the Williams Fall Invitational this past weekend at Taconic Golf Club.

The Polar Bears improved 13 strokes from Saturday to Sunday to take 15th with a team score of 649 in the 20-team field.

Tom Dunleavy led the way for the Polar Bears with a top-10 finish, carding a 77-74 to end in ninth place at 151. Reed Foehl was 51st for Bowdoin with a 83-77-160, followed by Michael Donovan in 65th with a 81-82-163. Rounding out the Polar Bears were Jackson Harrower (90th, 175) and Gavin Shilling (94th, 181).

Bowdoin heads to Connecticut this weekend to play in the NESCAC Fall Qualifier, hosted at Lyman Orchards Golf Club.

Volleyball

BRUNSWICK — Sophomore Ashley Williams has been named the NESCAC Volleyball Player of the Week.

Williams was outstanding last week, leading Bowdoin to a 2-1 weekend, including a come-from-behind 3-2 win at Tufts on Friday night. Williams registered a career-high 23-kill effort and .400 hitting percentage as Bowdoin rallied from a 2-1 deficit to edge the Jumbos.

For the weekend she averaged 3.42 kills per set in wins over Tufts and Scranton and a 3-1 loss to fourth-ranked Johnson & Wales.

It is the first NESCAC Player of the Week honor for Williams, who is one of five Polar Bears to be averaging over two kills/set this season.

Bowdoin (10-1, 3-0 NESCAC) returns to action Friday night with a NESCAC match at Williams at 7 p.m.
