SOUTH BERWICK — The Noble Knights went into Friday night’s Class B South football showdown at Marshwood with hopes of knocking off the defending state champs and their biggest rival.
Unfortunately for visiting Noble, it would be the host Hawks who took control early as they jumped out to a 49-point halftime lead and held on for a 49-6 win over the Knights.
Marshwood quarterback Tommy Springer and running back Justin Bryant each ran for three scores in the win. The Hawks would also get a TD run from John Valentine.
Noble’s Matt Beerworth scored a second-half touchdown to help the Knights avoid the shutout.
Marshwood improved to 6-0 and will visit Biddeford (3-3) next Friday. Noble (4-2) will host York next week.
Girls Soccer
Thornton Academy 3, Deering 0
The Golden Trojans scored three second-half goals to secure the win.
Hannah Niles scored twice and Alyanna Beaudoin had one goal and one assist for Thornton Academy (5-6).
Deering goalie Gianna Charest stopped 17 shots, while TA’s Grace Mears finished with two saves.
Sanford 3, Massabesic 0
Olivia Bammel put the Spartans on top midway through the opening half and they would add a pair of goals in the final period.
Julia Allen and Abby Toothaker also scored for Sanford, which improved to 4-5-1 on the season.
Traip Academy 4, Old Orchard Beach
Kathleen McPherson and Isabelle Woolachott scored two goals each to lead Traip over OOB.
OOB goalie Kaitlin Halle made three stops in the loss.
Abby Pitcairn pitched the shutout for the Rangers with 7 saves in the net.
Field Hockey
Falmouth 1, Thornton Academy 0
In a game where there were only three total shots on goal, the host Yachtsmen would get the only goal with 28 minutes left in regulation.
Emma Cohen scored on a penalty corner off an assist from Liberty Ladd.
TA’s Jenica Botting made one save. Caitlyn Bull stopped the only shot she saw.
Cross Country
Bonny Eagle sweeps meet
The Bonny Eagle cross country teams would win both meets at Thornton Academy on Friday.
The Scots won the boys’ meet with 28 points. Kennebunk was second with 43, while host TA finished third with 53 and Biddeford was fourth with 120.
On the girls’ side of things, Bonny Eagle won the meet with 17 points. Kennebunk was second with 54, while Thornton Academy (73) and Biddeford (103) rounded out the scoring.
Bonny Eagle’s Aiden Willey won the boys race with a time of 16:10. Kennebunk’s Ethan Eickmann was second as he finished in 16:21. TA’s Dawson Desrosier (16:30) came home in third with Bonny Eagle’s Anthony Breton and Justin Tomison rounding out the top five.
Bonny Eagle’s Delaney Hesler won the girls race with a time of 18:38 and her teammate Ami Beaumier finished second in 18:51.
The Scots’ Kayla Raymond was third with a time of 19:24, while Kennebunk’s Hannah D’Orso (19:31) was fourth and Bonny Eagle’s Emmaline Pendleton (19:35) fifth.
