WELLS — Fall is the time to stock up on bird food and two local nonprofits are ready to fill your orders.

York County Audubon and the Wells Reserve at Laudholm are holding their 20th annual seed sale fundraiser with an early-bird deadline of Oct. 26. Download an order form at wellsreserve.org, pick one up at the Wells Reserve visitor center, or call 646-1555 to have one mailed to you. All proceeds will benefit environmental education programs.

The Winter Finch Forecast says this will be an irruption year for redpolls, siskins, and evening grosbeaks, because natural seed sources are in short supply in Canada. Offering nyger and black oil sunflower seeds could bring these northern wanderers to southern Maine feeding stations this winter.

The National Audubon Society recommends providing a variety of foods to bring species diversity to your yard. Our premium-quality seed, fresh from the 2018 crop, is supplied by Blue Seal. Orders will be available for pick-up in the big barn at the Wells Reserve on Nov. 8, Nov. 9, and Nov. 10.

Keep your feathered friends full of energy this winter while helping to support local nonprofits.
