AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Health and Human Services is warning the public of a phone scam in which a prerecorded message indicates that the caller is from DHHS and solicits personal information, specifically Social Security numbers and birth dates.

These calls have been occurring in the southern Maine region.

Should any member of the public receive a call of this nature, be advised that this is a scam and do not provide any information.

DHHS will never call asking for personal information in a prerecorded message.

Anyone who believes they have received one of these calls is encouraged to contact DHHS Constituent Services and email Scott.Perkins@maine.gov or call 287-5846.
