PORTLAND — City voters send 10 legislators to Augusta every two years.

This year, races for five of the seats are uncontested, with Democrats unopposed in each seat.

In House District 38, Rep. Matt Moonen is not being challenged in his bid for a fourth term. The district covers the city’s West End.

Rep. Rachel Talbot Ross is seeking her second term in House District 40 with no opposition. The district covers the Bayside and Parkside neighborhoods and extends north of Interstate 295 past the University of Southern Maine.

In House District 41, covering Rosemont and Deering Center, Rep. Erik Jorgensen, seeking his fourth term, was set for a third straight race against Republican James Azzola. However, Azzola withdrew at the end of August after moving from the district.

The race to replace Democratic Rep. Heather Sanborn in House District 43 features only newcomer Edward Crockett, making his first run for public office. Republican Cathleen Nichols ran in the June 12 primary election, then withdrew from the race to run against Sen. Cathy Breen in Senate District 25 in Falmouth.

House District 43 covers northern Portland near Allen Avenue and a portion of Falmouth.

Sanborn, who is seeking to replace Democratic Sen. Mark Dion in District 28, had been opposed by Republican Patrick Martin of Westbrook. Martin withdrew from the race in the summer.

Dion left the seat to run unsuccessfully for governor. The district covers northern and western Portland and a portion of Westbrook.
