PORTLAND — A Cumberland County Jail corrections officer from South Portland was arrested Tuesday on a drug trafficking charge.

Davis Glazener, 22, whose address was not given, looked “like he was living two lives,” Cumberland County Sheriff Kevin Joyce said in a press conference Wednesday at his office.

Joyce said South Portland Police, sheriff’s deputies and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency were acting on a tip when they found cocaine at Glazener’s home and arrested him Tuesday evening.

Joyce declined to say how much cocaine was found, but state law considers possession of at least 14 grams of cocaine or 4 grams crack cocaine the threshold for unlawful distribution.

Unlawful trafficking of Schedule W drugs is a Class B offense, which carries a maximum prison term of 10 years.

While the case remains under investigation, Joyce said it does not initially appear Glazener was trafficking any drugs at the jail.

Glazener had been employed as a corrections officer for about two years after passing all required background checks and showed no prior criminal history. He is now on unpaid administrative leave, Joyce said

“You scratch your head and say, ‘what else could you have done,'” he added. “The answer is, I don’t have an answer.”

Glazener was booked into Cumberland County Jail then transferred to York County Jail in Alfred.

“We booked him here to show employees and the public we can take care of business here,” Joyce said.

However, it was necessary to transfer Glazener to Alfred in order to avoid uncomfortable situations for both him and other employees, Joyce added.

Glazener was scheduled to appear at the Cumberland County Unified Criminal Docket in Portland on Wednesday afternoon. Joyce said he had been unable to post $5,000 cash bail at either jail on Tuesday.

Cumberland County Sheriff Kevin Joyce said Oct. 24 that corrections officer Davis Glazener, who has been accused of trafficking cocaine, likely did not sell the drug at the jail in Portland.
