ALFRED – A jury has returned a guilty verdict against a Sanford man charged with six counts of unlawful sexual contact and one count of visual sexual aggression against a child in connection with incidents in 2009, when the victim was 11.
Nicholas Westgate, 37, of Sanford was remanded in custody at York County Jail pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled.
The verdict was handed up late Wednesday afternoon following a three day trial before Justice Wayne Douglas at York County Superior Court.
Unlawful sexual contact is a Class B felony; visual sexual aggression against a child is a Class C felony.
The trial is the third in the case. Westgate was first convicted in 2014 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with all but two years suspended, plus 10 years probation.
He appealed the decision in 2015. The Maine Supreme Judicial Court handed up its decision, ordering a new trial in September 2016.
A trial in May 2017 ended in a mistrial.
