WESTBROOK–Blazes seniors Avery Tucker and Nyagoa Bayak signed, at Westbrook  High School on Nov. 19, National Letters of Intent to join the St. Anselm field hockey and Lousiana State University track and field programs, respectively.

Tucker holds the WHS record for career goals at 42; she also accrued 29 assists in her four years. 20 of those goals came in her junior season alone, tying the school record. She’s been a Captain for two consecutive seasons, a Southwestern Maine Activities Association All-Conference winner, a Portland Press Herald Player to Watch and Athlete of the Week, a finalist for Varsity Maine’s Play of the Year in both 2017 and 2018 and an All-State selection.

St. A’s has been recruiting Tucker since earlier this year. The Hawks are a standout squad, having reached the NCAA Division II Tournament in each of the past four seasons.

Bayak owns the indoor and outdoor state high jump records, at 5-11.00. Naturally, she’s a multiple state champ; she’s also a New England champ, as well as a national indoor champ in the triple jump (39-01; Emerging Elites category). She finished third in the high jump in that same competition, earning herself All-American Honors. At outdoor nationals, she claimed second. She’s earned herself the Portland Press Herald’s Girls Indoor Track Athlete of the Year crown, as well as the Maine Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year crown, and been an SMAA All-Conference selection many times.

LSU is a top-flight program. The Tigers typically finish top-10 in the Southeastern Conference and NCAA Championship meets.
