SCARBOROUGH — The town has teamed up with the city of Saco and the Portland Area Comprehensive Transportation System in an effort to make Route 1 “multimodal.”

Scarborough and Saco will hold several meetings to gather input from residents on how to make the Route 1 corridor from downtown Saco to Pleasant Hill Road safer and more accessible for all modes of transportation, including motor vehicles, public transit, bicycles and pedestrians.

The first Scarborough meeting will be held Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. in Town Council chambers at Town Hall. The first meeting in Saco was held Dec. 5.

Residents can also provide feedback through a public opinion survey by visiting  www.surveymonkey.com/r/SacoScarboroRte1.

A draft analysis based on input provided during the meetings is expected to be completed in March 2019. Another set of public meetings will be held in April in each community to review the recommendations in hopes of finalizing a plan in July.
