BRUNSWICK — For those wondering what all-ages activities are available in the area to boost or maintain physical health, the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust has the answers.

The trust launched its “wellness resource” at btlt.org/wellness-map last month. With the website a work in progress, “we are looking for information from the community to make sure that we aren’t missing anything,” Jamie Pacheco, BTLT’s wellness coordinator, said Dec. 12.

“We want feedback; we want to know what people need,” Pacheco said.

The resource is meant as a one-stop shop for those looking for outdoor, indoor or child-friendly activities around greater Brunswick. Whereas information on such opportunities has been spread over various websites, or not published online, the new guide will serve as a compilation of available opportunities.

“The Land Trust’s mission is to conserve land but also to connect people to nature by providing recreational opportunities,” BTLT said in a recent press release. “As such, the organization feels a responsibility to improve the overall wellness of our community through education and access.”

The resource serves as an interactive map, allowing users to explore the area and click on activities based on geographic location. The guide also provides a comprehensive chart that it sorted by season, location and activity type.

To bring the information together, BTLT partnered with the Merrymeeting Food Council, Kennebec Estuary Land Trust, Harpswell Heritage Land Trust, and the communities of Bath, Brunswick, Bath, Topsham and Harpswell.

A form at the bottom of the website allows users to provide feedback on the guide. Support has been strong over the past few weeks.

“People are excited by how comprehensive it is,” Pacheco said. “People are just impressed by the sheer amount of information that is there.”

An activity map shows a thick cluster of listings from Long and Chebeague islands north to Bowdoinham, Woolwich, Arrowsic and Georgetown. A long list of links lines the left side of the page.

The guide is meant to be “a tool to make it easier for people to be physically active, but also make it easier for people to achieve what they need to make their life more healthy,” Pacheco noted. “… We (tried) to make it accessible for people who have different interests and different needs for how to be active.”
