TOPSHAM — Mt. Ararat erased a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit for a come-from-behind 44-42 victory over Biddeford in a girls high school Class A South basketball matchup on Friday.

The win evens the Eagles mark to 3-3, while the Tigers fell to 2-4.

Biddeford was in control from the start, leading 16-8 after a quarter, 23-15 at the half and 39-27 after three frames.

But, a 17-3 fourth-quarter run fueled the Mt. Ararat comeback, with Theresa Breed picking up all seven of her points down the stretch, while Kyla Greenleaf added four of her 10 points in the final frame. Ainsley Bryant paced the win with 13 points and four steals, while Grace Liedman added six points and a team-high nine rebounds. Elsa Daulerio and Eliza Libby were solid defensively.

Grace Martin scored a game-high 20 points for Biddeford, with Charli Yohs adding 11.

Mt. Ararat heads to Gardiner on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Morse 16

The Shipbuilders led 9-7 after the first quarter, but the Rams rolled from their for a Class A South win at Bath on Friday.

Kennebunk outscored Morse (0-6), 19-1, in the second quarter for a 26-10 halftime lead.

Alaina Schatzabed and Emily Archibald  led the Rams with 10 points each.

Julia Goddard paced Morse, which visits Leavitt on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., with seven points.

Boys hoops

RICHMOND — Corey Weirs and Isaac Burnell combined for 39 points to power Lisbon to a 68-64 Mountain Valley Conference win over Richmond on Friday.

The Greyhounds, 3-3, led 12-8 after a quarter and 33-25 at the half. But, the Bobcats, 1-6, rallied for a 46-44 advantage after three.

Wiers had 24 points, with Burnell adding 15. DJ Douglass chipped in 10 points in the win, with Seth Tapley picking up eight.

For Richmond, Calob Densmore led the way with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Danny Stewart had 18 points and seven boards. Kenny Bing added 10 points.

At the free-throw line, the Greyhounds were 11-of-20, while the Bobcats finished 10-of-17.

Both teams return to action on Thursday, with Lisbon home to Telstar and Richmond at Mt. Abram.

Biddeford 50

The Eagles held the Rams to just four fourth-quarter points in earning a win over Biddeford on Saturday.

Will Kavanaugh led the win with 16 points, including a pair of free throws with two seconds left. Austin Damon and Jared Balser each finished with a double-double, with Damon chipping in 12 points and 10 rebounds and Jared Balser 10 points and 12 boards. Sean Roberts was solid defensively.

The Eagles led 15-11 after a quarter, but trailed 35-32 at the half and 46-43 after three.

Cody Saucier had 15 points for 1-5 Biddeford, with Ashton Crowell adding 12 points and Carter Edgerton nine.

Mt. Ararat hosts Gardiner on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Greely 62
Brunswick 50

The visiting Rangers jumped out to a 10-point halftime lead and held on for a Class A South over the Dragons, who fell to 3-3 and visits Camden Hills on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Greely held quarter leads of 18-12, 35-25 and 47-35.

Andrew Shorey led the Rangers with 26 points, followed by Zac Brown with 15.

Noah Cox had a game-high 31 points for Brunswick, with Cam Dunton chipping in seven.

Linc. Academy 33
Freeport 76

The Falcons (5-1) led 23-6 after the first quarter and defeated the Eagles (1-5) at Freeport on Saturday.

Toby Holt and Heath Cockburn each scored 12 points for Freeport. Gabe Wagner and Shea Wagner each added 11 for the Falcons.

Freeport hosts Old Orchard Beach on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Morse 75
Kennebunk 95

The host Rams jumped out to a 30-10 first-quarter lead and played Morse even from there for a Class A South win on Saturday.

Max Murray paced the win with 23 points, while Cam Lovejoy added 16 points, Zack Sullivan 14 and Kyle Pasieniuk 13.

For Morse (2-4), Tom Warren led the way with 23 points. Dylan Orr chipped in 12, with Kaleb Jackson and Brogan Shaw each adding 10. Shaw dished out seven assists.

Morse hosts Leavitt on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Hockey

LEWISTON —Leah Landry and Katie Lemieux netted a pair of goals each as Lewiston/Monmouth/Oak Hill blanked Yarmouth/Freeport, 10-0, on Saturday at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

The Blue Devils (9-0) led 3-0 after two periods. Gemma Landry scored a goal and two assists, while Brie Dube chipped in with a pair of assists for Lewiston.

Clippers netminder Allie Perrotta kept her team in it, with Yarmouth/Freeport trailing just 3-0 after two periods.

Camree St. Hilaire earned the win in net for Lewiston.

Yarmouth/Freeport (6-3) visits Brunswick on Saturday.

Tournament

BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick girls hockey team recently hosted its annual Christmas Tournament at Watson Arena.

In the championship game, the Dragons earned a hard-fought 4-2 win over rival Mt. Ararat/Morse.

The Eagles opened up the scoring 1:07 into the game with a goal by Lexi Saxton assisted by Megan Reed.

Brunswick countered 48 seconds later with Beth Labbe scoring the goal.

At the 10:10 mark of the second period, Emily Factor sniped a shot from the point for a power-play goal for Brunswick, fed by Greta White and Beth Labbe.

A minute later, the Eagles made it 2-2 when Maddie Young put the puck past Brunswick keeper Nadia Leiner.

In the third, the Dragons scored twice to seal the victory. At the 2:13 mark, Labbe potted another goal, assisted by Molly Taub. At the 8:56 mark, Emma Paledzki put back a rebound opportunity to give the Dragons the insurance tally, with helpers going to White and Elena Palmer.

Leiner made 17 saves to secure the win, while Gabby Mason and Lily Schenk combined to make 21 saves for the Eagles.

In the opening game, Brunswick rolled to a 6-2 win over Gorham/Bonny Eagle/Massabesic.

Palmer led the way on the scoresheet with two goals and two assists. White had a goal and two assists, and Labbe chipped in with two goals. Paledzki rounded out the goal scoring for the Dragons, who scored twice in each period.

Brooke Guimond and Faith Dillon scored for the visitors.

Leiner made 13 saves between the pipes for the victory.

In the other opening-round contest, Mt. Ararat/Morse picked up a 9-1 victory over Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland/Oak Hill.
