BIDDEFORD – The Taco Bell at 460 Alfred St. in Biddeford  is currently closed, and its unclear when — or if — it will reopen.

The fast food restaurant, which is adjacent to a Jiffy Lube car maintenance shop, has been closed for several days. A sign on the door states, “Sorry for the inconvenience but we are closed. 🙁 We will be back in a couple days better than ever! :-)”

Multiple calls and emails to the company’s media relations department have gone unanswered. A representative at the Taco Bell customer service line said the Biddeford restaurant is still listed in the records as open. A person who answered the phone at the adjacent Jiffy Lube said they didn’t know why Taco Bell was closed.

Buildings on the property were razed in 2016 to make way for the building that now houses Taco Bell and Jiffy Lube. The two businesses opened in 2017.

While plans for the project were still under review of the Biddeford Planning Board in October 2015, Kyle Gibson of Guggenheim Retail Real Estate Partners, a development company headquartered in New York and Chicago, said the seemingly unusual combination (pairing Jiffy Lube and Taco Bell) works well to manage traffic flow.

While Jiffy Lube might attract 15 to 20 vehicles per day, Taco Bell could attract that many vehicles in one hour, he said.

“That’s why the two users work fairly well together, because one’s traffic intensive and one’s not,” he said.

Prior to the current use, the nearly 2-acre property at 460 Alfred St. (Route 111) housed two buildings occupied by automotive repair shops.
