BRUNSWICK — Marley Groat scored a career-high 23 points to power the Brunswick High School girls basketball team to a 66-37 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over Messalonskee on Saturday.

The Dragons swept a pair of weekend games, rolling to a 45-22 KVAC win over Medomak Valley on Friday, ending with a 14-1 record. Brunswick visits Lincoln Academy on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Against the Eagles, Brunswick led 21-12, 32-21 and 51-32 at the quarter breaks.

Groat dished out four assists, with Charlotte MacMillan adding 18 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and two blocked shots. Rosalie White pitched in 10 points, with Emily Larochelle chipping in nine points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Gabby Wener paced Messalonskee with 10 points.

At Waldoboro on Friday, Brunswick jumped to a 17-2 first-quarter lead and never looked back en route to a win.

The Dragons held the Panthers to just eight field goals, all from inside the arc.

MacMillan again had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Groat picked up 17 points, seven rebounds and seven steals, while matching MacMillan with four assists. Larochelle had eight rebounds.

Richmond 47

Wiscasset 16

Hannah Moholland and Bryanne Lancaster combined for 31 points to power the visiting Bobcats past the Wolverines in Mountain Valley Conference action on Saturday.

Richmond improved to 8-8 and visits Hall-Dale on Friday (6:30 p.m.), while Wiscasset  fell to 0-15 and hosts Monmouth on Wednesday (6:30 p.m.).

Moholland had 17 points and five steals, while Lancaster added a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds, including 10 caroms on the offensive glass. Macy Carver chipped in eight points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Kateleen Trask paced Wiscasset with eight points.

Mallory Fairbanks and Charlee Cox split 24 points down the middle as the Greyhounds earned their second win in MVC play at Dixfield on Saturday.

Lisbon (2-12) led 29-24 at the half and 37-32 after three.

Alyssa McTyre led Dirigo (3-13) with nine points, followed by Ashley Perreault and Alexa Varnum with eight points apiece.

FREEPORT — Toby Holt scored 14 of his 19 points as Freeport picked up a hard-fought 48-41 WMC win over Fryeburg Academy on Friday.

Tucker Buzzell led the Raiders (6-8) with 19 points.

Freeport improved to 9-5 and visits York on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The host Mustangs rallied from a third-quarter deficit for an MVC win over the Bobcats on Friday.

Richmond (4-11) led 43-40 after 24 minutes, but Monmouth put up 26 fourth-quarter points to the win and a 10-4 record.

Evan Burnell paced the win with 22 points, while Brock Bates chipped in 17 and Dylan Lajoie.

Mason Blake powered his way to 24 points for Richmond, which hosts Wiscasset on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Kenny Bing added 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Calob Densmore and Ben Young both had seven points.

FARMINGDALE — Zoe Walker scored 16 points as Morse rolled to a 72-46 season-opening win over Hall-Dale/Richmond on Thursday.

Keegan Companion added 12 points, while Cameron Dunlop picked up 10. Eight of the 10 players who entered the game scored for the Shipbuilders (1-0).

Emma Chase paced Hall-Dale/Richmond (0-1) with 13 points, while James Gioia had eight points.

Morse heads to Gray-New Gloucester on Thursday at 4 p.m. before its home opener on Friday in a rematch with Hall-Dale/Richmond at 3:30 p.m.

Cheering

AUGUSTA —Lisbon will have a shot at its second State Class C title in three years after winning the Class C South regional title at the Augusta Civic Center on Saturday.

The Greyhounds (70.2 points) edged state qualifiers Sacopee Valley, Madison/Carrabec, Monmouth, Wiscasset and Dirigo in the close competition.

Bangor won the Class A North title, holding off talented Lewiston, which has won six of the past Class A titles.

In Class B South, Medomak Valley ran away with the regional title with 84 points.

Joining the Panthers in the State Class B title hunt are Leavitt, Morse, Gray-New Gloucester, Spruce Mountain and Freeport.

Girls hockey

BRUNSWICK — Olivia Bradford and Kyaira Grondin tallied a pair of goals each as Yarmouth/Freeport rolled to a 7-0 win over Mt. Ararat/Morse on Friday at Sidney J. Watson Arena.

Margeret Perrotta, Lydia Guay and Lily Caulfield each scored a goal for the Clippers.

Yarmouth/Freeport was in action again on Saturday. The Clippers (11-6) earned a 3-1 victory over Gorham/Bonny Eagle/Massabesic at Travis Roy Arena in Yarmouth. Perrotta, Bradford and Emma Moll scored for Yarmouth/Freeport, while Sarah Juskiewicz had a goal for the Rams.

The Clippers conclude their regular season this upcoming Saturday against Winslow/Gardiner at 3:20 p.m. at home.

Boys hockey

GORHAM — Chris Westgate’s goal 35 seconds into the third period provided the winning margin as the Mustangs (7-5) pushed out to a 3-1 victory over Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse/Hyde (6-7-1) on Saturday at the University of Southern Maine.

Brady Cormier increased the lead to 3-0 before the Eagles’ Noah Austin converted a Camdan Poisson assist with 2:29 left in the game.

Massabesic took a 1-0 during the first period when Grayson Krause scored from Payson Oertel and Tayte Harris.

The Eagles are 6-7-1 and visit Lake Region/Fryeburg Academy/Oxford Hills on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m.
