The Morse High School cheerleading squad placed third in the Class B South Regional competition on Saturday at the Augusta Civic Center. This marked the highest finish for the Shipbuilders and qualified Morse for the State Class B championship for the fourth time in the past five years. Morse finished fourth in the KVAC meet. States will take place on Feb. 9 at the Augusta Civic Center. The squad consists of one senior, two juniors, eight sophomores and two freshmen and is coached by Heidi Kirkpatrick and Deirdre Jewett. BRUNSWICK — Sam Sharpe led the way with 20 points as the Brunswick High School boys basketball team celebrated Senior Night with a 69-53 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference victory over Lincoln Academy on Wednesday.

Finn Mitchell chipped in 17 points for the Dragons, who improved to 8-7 and visits Edward Little on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Joel Hatch had 19 points for the Eagles, who fell to 1-14.

Rangeley 66

Chris Amisi hit six 3-pointers and scored 41 points for Pine Tree Academy, but the Breakers came up short in a Class D South loss to Rangeley.

Rangeley (10-5) was led by Nolan Boone, who scored 15 points, while William Brey chipped in 14, and Ian Lillis’ and Trevor Dolbier’s 12 points each.

Pine Tree (4-12) hosts Temple Academy on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls basketball

NEWCASTLE — Brunswick started slow, but pulled it together for a 56-25 KVAC victory over Lincoln Academy.

Trailing 9-6 after a quarter, the Dragons starting hitting from beyond the arc, with six 3-pointers leading to a 34-19 halftime lead.

The defense took over in the second half, as Brunswick held the Eagles to just six points.

Charlotte MacMillan led the balanced Dragons (14-1) with 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists, six steals and three blocked shots, followed by Logan Brown with 11 points and five rebounds, and Alexis Guptill with 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Emily Larochelle chipped in eight points, six boards and three steals, while Marley Groat dished out four assists and picked up four steals.

Lincoln Academy was paced the six points each from Joy Hedrick and Maddy York.

Brunswick hosts Edward Little on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Rangeley 53

Olivia Pye scored 14 points to lead the Lakers to the win over the Breakers.

Lauren Eastlack added 12 points for Rangeley (14-1), while Winnie LaRochelle added 10 points and six rebounds, and Brooke Egan chipped in with eight points, five assists and five steals.

Pine Tree (8-8) was led by Emily Rojas with six points.

The Breakers return to action on Saturday at home against Temple Academy at 6 p.m.

Mtn. Valley 54

The host Falcons pulled away in the third quarter for a Mountain Valley Conference win over the Greyhounds in Rumford.

Mountain Valley (12-5) led 14-7 and 27-18 at the first two quarter breaks before a 15-5 third quarter put the game out of reach.

Kierstyn Lyons led all scorers with 20 points in the win, while teammates Courtney Carrier (16) and Saydie Garbarini (nine) chipped in.

Charlee Cox paced Lisbon (3-13) with 16 points, while Sydney Plourde added seven.

Lisbon visits undefeated Boothbay on Friday at 7 p.m.
